The Giant Chinchilla Rabbit (or Giganta Chinchilla) was developed by Mr. Edward H. Stahl who crossed New Zealand White does, Standard Chinchilla bucks, and American Blue rabbits.

Unsurprisingly, they are large-sized rabbits, which can weigh up to 15 pounds. They have a distinctive chinchilla-like fur, which is thick and soft, and a color of a blue-gray. They are the only rabbit of the Chinchilla family with a flyback coat. Their ears are large and erect. They are considered a fancy breed and were developed for their fur and meat. They have a good meat quality and docile nature, making them a popular choice for meat production. They are also known for their hardiness, which makes them well suited to outdoor production systems. They are considered to be a good choice for small-scale and hobby farmers, as they are easy to handle and have a good reproductive rate. They are also known to be good pets as they are friendly and affectionate.

Giant Chinchilla rabbits are considered a heritage breed, and there are some conservation efforts to preserve this breed.

The Giant Chinchilla Rabbit was accepted into the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) in 1928.
