The Nera di Arbus, or Pecora Nera di Arbus ("black sheep of Arbus"), sheep are a distinctive medium-small breed originating from the southwestern coast of Sardinia, Italy, specifically from the town of Arbus. This unique breed is primarily found in the provinces of Cagliari, Nuoro, Oristano, and Sassari, where it has established itself as a cherished part of the local agricultural landscape.

Distinguished by their striking black hair, sometimes accented with shades of gray, the Nera di Arbus sheep possess a distinctive appearance that sets them apart from other breeds. Their coarse wool, while not suitable for traditional textile production, holds cultural significance as it is used to create orbace, a coarse hand-woven cloth traditionally used in the crafting of authentic Sardinian garments. This cultural heritage reflects the deep-rooted connection between the breed and the local artisanal traditions of the Sardinian people.

The Nera di Arbus sheep, with their resilient nature and adaptability to the rugged terrain of Sardinia, play a vital role in the region's agricultural heritage and economy. Their presence serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of traditional livestock breeds and their importance in sustaining local communities and preserving cultural identity.
