About Bagnolese SheepAbout Bagnolese Sheep

rnrnBagnolese Sheeprnare an autochthonous breed from Campania, Italy that got its name from the villagernof Bagnoli Irpino in the province of Avellino. They probably derives from therncrossbreeding of the Barbaresca breed and the local breeds of the Apennines.rnOver time they spread from Irpinia to the entire region up to the provinces ofrnCaserta and Salerno.

rnrnThey arernmedium-large white sheep with black spots. There are excellent dairy productsrnderived from its milk: pecorino as well as ricotta cheese (fresh or salted andrnaged). They are also raised for meat.

rnrnIn Irpiniarn(province of Avellino) they are still largely kept in wild or semi wild state, rnfed on herbal pastureland with integration only in the winter months.
